New Delhi. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday referred to the incident when she lived secretly with her children in Delhi’s Pandara Road to escape the perpetrators of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s assassination. Sheikh Hasina also recalled that time and how the Indian government offered her help, while the killers wanted to eliminate all members of her family. With moist eyes, Sheikh Hasina recalled the year 1975 when she had to leave Bangladesh to join her nuclear scientist husband in Germany. At that time, her family members had come to the airport to bid farewell to Haseena and her sister. But this farewell proved to be his last meeting with his parents.

Recalling the darkest chapter in the history of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said in an interview to news agency ANI, “Because my husband was abroad, I used to live with my parents in the same house. We were all there that day, my father, mother, my three brothers, two newly married sister-in-law, all were there. That is, all brothers and sisters and their spouses. They had come to the airport to see us off. We met our parents there but that was the last day of our meeting. ,

A few days later, on 15 August 1975, Hasina got the news of the murder of her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He also came to know about the hanging of other members of his family. Sheikh Hasina said it was really unbelievable. It is also unbelievable how a Bengali can do this. We still don’t know what really happened today. Only a coup took place and then we heard that my father had been murdered. After that we did not know where all the members of our family were. Later you know they were all murdered. ,

Sheikh Hasina said that India was the first country that helped me. He said, “The then PM Indira Gandhi immediately sent information that she wanted to give us security and shelter. I was specifically promised security by Marshal Tito of Yugoslavia and Indira Gandhi. We decided to come to Delhi because we had in mind that if we go to Delhi, then from there we will be able to go to our country. And then we will know how many members of the family are still alive.” After this Sheikh Hasina came to Delhi and was kept under heavy security as those who killed her father also attacked the houses of other relatives and killed some of her relatives.

Sheikh Hasina said that about 18 members, mostly my relatives, some servants and their children, some guests and my uncle, were killed. The conspirators wanted that no one from Bangabandhu’s family should ever return to power. Recalling that incident, Sheikh Hasina said, “When we came to Delhi, it was probably 24th August. I met Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. There we came to know that no one is alive. Then he made all the arrangements for us. Arrangements were made for my husband to have a job and a stay at the Pandara Road house. We stayed there.”

Sheikh Hasina told that the first 2-3 years were really very difficult. My kids were very young. My son was only 4 years old. My younger daughter used to cry. They were all insisting on going to my parents. They all still remember my younger brother.” Sheikh Hasina was forced to hide her identity in Delhi as her life was in danger. She lived here by many names. Bangladesh had been in political chaos and military rule for several years after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members were assassinated by senior army officers on August 15, 1975.
