New Delhi. Instagram is focusing on bringing full-screen content to its platform. At present, the company is working on a new format for the photo. According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, the photo-sharing platform will start testing ultra-tall 9:16 images in the next few weeks. Currently Instagram offers 4:5 ratio when displaying vertical images.

Mosseri revealed that you can make long videos, but not long pictures. So we thought maybe we should make sure we treat both equally. He said that with the help of this format, these pictures will fill the entire screen like reels.

Photographers criticized
Earlier this 9:16 ratio was criticized by photographers as it spoiled the quality of the picture as well as made it awkward. According to a report in The Verge, the app has also added overlay gradients at the bottom of feed posts to make the text easier to read.

Ideal not format
In the meantime, Mosseri has admitted that the format is not ideal, but the company still wants to roll out the ultra-tall photo format. However, it will not be made mandatory for all photographs. Mosseri added that I think we need to take a big step back, regroup and figure out how we can move forward.

criticism of changes
Notably, Instagram recently rolled back its UI changes, which include full-screen video posts in feeds (somewhat similar to TikTok). The platform has also reduced the recommended posts based on algorithms. The company took this step at a time when Instagram faced massive criticism for these changes. Major celebrities and users such as Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian criticized the changes made by the photo-sharing social media platform.
