The case of Barmer’s Women’s PG College
A large number of students’ votes were canceled in the counting of votes.
Barmer. After the recently concluded student union elections in Rajasthan, a surprising case has come to the fore. In Barmer’s Government PG Mahila Mahavidyalaya, about 15 percent of the total votes were rejected. Out of the votes cast by the girl students of the college, every eighth vote was rejected. A total of 767 votes were cast in the college. Here the entire panel of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad won. The entire NSUI panel was defeated. After the election, now the NSUI has demanded an inquiry into the whole matter, alleging rigging in vote counting. After the complaint made to the District Collector, now the Barmer SDM is engaged in the investigation of the whole matter. At the same time, ABVP has alleged that under pressure from the government, efforts are being made to harass the winning panel.
The Government PG Women’s College, located at the Barmer district headquarters, also voted during the student union elections held across the state on August 26. Out of the total voters of the college, 767 girl students had cast their votes. Surprisingly, a large number of votes of girl students studying in the college were rejected. If we look at the post wise, out of these, 96 votes were rejected for the post of president, 101 for the post of vice-president, 130 for the post of general secretary and 101 for the post of joint secretary. In this way, if the total votes rejected on all the posts are added, then a total of 428 votes were rejected.
election officer said the allegation baseless
On the question being raised on the rejected votes during the counting of votes, Election Officer Mukesh Panchori says that there has been no rigging of any kind. For us both sides are equal. The allegation is baseless. We are ready for any kind of inquiry. Twenty people were present at the counting venue. The entire counting of votes has been videographed. We would prefer to die before we can differentiate between our children. But cannot do such a thing.
ABVP bid will not sit silent
At the same time, President Swati Charan, who won the election, says that the counting of votes has been done in a fair manner. This game is being played to gain cheap popularity. Under the pressure of the government, the district administration is defaming the college administration under the conspiracy. The winning officials are being harassed. If the administration did anything under the pressure of the government, then we would not sit silent.
Collector said investigation has been handed over on the basis of complaint
District Collector Lokbandhu Yadav says that a complaint was received regarding the election of women’s college. We had sent him to the college commissionerate. From there, orders for administrative inquiry have come. The investigation has been handed over to the sub-divisional officer on this. They will do whatever feels right to them. The inquiry report will be sent to the Commissionerate. Decision will be taken based on their guidelines.
