Ministers in charge will hoist the flag in their respective districts
Mumbai. A prominent member of the rebel Shiv Sena camp said on Friday that the much-awaited cabinet expansion in Maharashtra will happen before August 15. It has been more than a month since the new government took over in the state. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took oath on June 30 and at present there is no member in the state cabinet apart from them. Rebel Shiv Sena MLA and former minister Uday Samant told reporters here that the expansion of the Shinde-led cabinet would take place before August 15.
Samant, the spokesperson of Shinde-led Shiv Sena’s rebel camp, said the ministers in charge would unfurl the tricolor in their respective districts on Independence Day. In-charge ministers are appointed for the development plans and related matters of each district. This is an additional responsibility, which is given to the members of the Council of Ministers. Meanwhile, the opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) hit out at the Shinde-led government over the delay in cabinet expansion and asked if it was not getting the right time for the exercise.
It has been announced more than 20 times that cabinet expansion will happen ‘soon’
The Sharad Pawar-led party said leaders of both the Shinde camp and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have repeatedly said that the cabinet will be expanded “soon”, but nothing has happened so far. NCP’s state unit spokesperson Mahesh Tapase said it has been announced more than 20 times that cabinet expansion will happen “soon”. “We demand immediate relief for those farmers who suffered crop loss in the recent heavy rains and floods,” he said.
