New Delhi. The project of bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has gone a step further today. Tenders have been invited to build a 7 km long tunnel under the sea. A 21-km-long tunnel is to be built in Maharashtra for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed ​​Rail Corridor, of which seven km. This type of tunnel will be under the sea, being built for the first time in the country.

NHSRCL has invited tenders for about 21 km long tunnel using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) and New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) for Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed ​​Rail Corridor.

This tunnel will be between Bandra-Kurla Complex underground station and Shilphata in the state of Maharashtra. The 7 km tunnel under the sea at Thane Creek (interdidal zone) will be the first sea tunnel to be built in the country.
Arrival and arrival track will be made in the same tunnel. As part of the package, 39 equipment rooms will also be constructed at 37 locations around the tunnel.

TBMs with a cutter head of 13.1 meters in diameter will be used for the construction of this tunnel. Usually 5-6 meter diameter cutter head is used for urban tunnels used in MRTS – Metro system.

Three tunnel boring machines will be used to make about 16 km of the tunnel and the remaining 5 km will be done through the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). This tunnel will be about 25 to 65 meters deep from the ground level and the deepest construction point will be 114 meters below Parsik hill near Shilphata.

National High Speed ​​Rail Corporation is building India’s first high speed rail line of 508 km length between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, whose 352 km route will pass through nine districts of Gujarat and three districts of Maharashtra. The work of the project has started in all these eight districts. 12 stations are being built in this corridor. It is estimated that Rs 1.08 lakh crore will be spent in this project.
