Jammu. The Congress on Monday demanded restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and early assembly elections there. Party spokesperson Dolly Sharma accused the central government of dealing with the matters related to Jammu and Kashmir in an authoritarian manner. In the press conference, Sharma and Congress leader Debashish Jararia also targeted the central government on the issue of inflation and unemployment. Sharma said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made big promises to deceive the people before coming to power, but he could not fulfill any one of them.” The price of gas has increased by 156 per cent, petrol by 40 per cent, diesel by 75 per cent, mustard oil by 122 per cent, wheat flour by 81 per cent and milk by 71 per cent.
According to Sharma, “The All India Congress Committee is going to organize a rally ‘Drawn Per Halla Bol’ on September 4 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. A large number of people from across the country will take part in this rally against rising prices.” He said that Prime Minister Modi had promised to provide two crore jobs every year, but only 7.5 lakh jobs were given in the last eight years. The Congress leader alleged that the government had made big claims about startups, but in reality, more than 20 thousand youth have been retrenched by it. Sharma and Jararia also alleged that the administration in Jammu and Kashmir has collectively punished those candidates, who had qualified for various jobs, on charges of corruption and misconduct.
Jararia alleged, “The Modi government has resolved to make every deserving candidate jobless. Prime Minister Modi has resolved to take from the poor and give to his rich friends. This is what he has been doing for the last eight years. But despite generating thousands of MW of electricity, it is being kept in the dark. The people of Jammu and Kashmir also have a right over a part of the electricity generated here.” Congress leaders also demanded immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and early elections there.
