Since the abrogation of Article 370, ‘Apni Party’ has been successful in attracting many leaders.
The People’s Conference had expanded into northern Kashmir as well as the southern parts of the state.
With the announcement of Ghulam Nabi Azad to form a new party, people started coming out of both the parties.

Srinagar, With Ghulam Nabi Azad preparing to form a new party in Jammu and Kashmir, parties like Apni Party and People’s Conference led by Altaf Bukhari and Sajjad Lone may find it difficult to keep their people united. Since the abrogation of Article 370, his party has been successful in attracting many leaders towards it. Similarly, the People’s Conference had a decent presence in North Kashmir. It had also expanded in the southern parts of the state in the last few years. But Azad’s announcement of forming a new party has now forced the leaders of these two organizations of the state to rethink their plans.

According to a news in Hindustan Times, seeing Azad’s prospects increasing after his first rally in Jammu, many leaders of these two parties are now thinking of switching sides and joining the camp of the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Some Congress leaders were in touch with Bukhari before Azad’s rally in Jammu, but now they have joined Ghulam Nabi Azad. Azad is now visiting the state and meeting delegations and leaders from different areas of the Union Territory.

Shoaib Lone, a former MLA from North Kashmir, had left the Congress to join his party. Now he joined them after Azad’s announcement of forming a new political party. Shoaib Lone also took part in the rally in Jammu and could be the candidate of Azad’s party from Baramulla. Lone said that ‘Yes, I have resigned from my party and have joined Ghulam Nabi Azad, a visionary leader who has had a successful tenure as Chief Minister.’

According to reports, many others like him have left their party and joined Azad’s camp. However, his party termed it as a rumor to weaken the party. A senior leader of his party said that ‘no one will leave the party. Our party is getting stronger day by day. We will not face any threat from Azad’s party. Yes, some leaders who were planning to join us will no longer join our party.

Azad, who is visiting Kashmir, is expected to meet several leaders who are from different political parties but have personal ties with former chief minister Azad. Some of Azad’s close aides had joined his party and the People’s Conference after the abrogation of Article 370 in the hope that whenever elections are held in the UT, both the parties have the potential to form the next government.

Jammu and Kashmir: When will Ghulam Nabi Azad’s new party be formed and what will be the manifesto? learn everything

Whereas People’s Conference spokesperson Adnan Ashraf said that not a single leader or worker of his party would join Azad’s party. All those people who are part of PC are dedicated, activists and leaders. He will never leave the party. However, ever since Azad announced the formation of a new party, his party’s leadership has started targeting Azad directly for his alleged role in the abrogation of Article 370.
