New Delhi. G-23 member and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has told News 18 India that G-23 members will have no objection if a consensus face comes to the fore in the Congress Presidential election. On the question of candidates standing in the Congress President’s election, G-23 member Chavan said that if the candidate is decided by consensus, then there will be no need to vote in the party President’s election. When News18 India questioned whether the name of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is also coming up for the post of President, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that if the name of Ashok Gehlot or any other face of consensus comes up, then G -23 people will accept.

In fact, Congress MP and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor had recently expressed hope that many candidates would be in the fray in the election of Congress President. After this statement of Tharoor, there has been speculation that Shashi Tharoor himself or some other member of G-23 can put up a candidature for the election of Congress President. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is also among the members of the G-23 who wrote a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi to improve the functioning of the party. Shashi Tharoor has also demanded to make public the voter list related to the election of Congress President.

Prithviraj Chavan also wants the voter list to be made public!

Prithviraj Chavan has also demanded to make the voter list public in the Congress Presidential election. In a conversation with News18 India, Chavan said, ‘The voter list is made public in every election. Therefore voters should be given voter list by email. If there is a problem with the website, then it should be emailed. The Congress President should direct the voter list to be made public or e-mailed to the interested candidate in order to maintain the transparency of the election and to restore the confidence of the common worker in the Congress. In fact, before Chavan, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor, P Chidambaram have also demanded to make the voter list public.

Prithviraj Chavan’s statement is very important amidst speculation of someone’s candidature from G-23 in the Congress Presidential election because if Ashok Gehlot or any other consensus face comes, then there will be no need to vote in the party president election. Meanwhile, on Sunday, Shashi Tharoor also met Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and both had talks on issues related to Congress. The election of the Congress President is to be held on October 17.
