Reducing obesity: Protein is one of the most essential nutrients for the body. Protein itself is a participant in the development of the body. But if the diet of this protein is limited, then one can get rid of obesity. This has come to the fore in a research. Not only this, research has claimed that by limiting the amount of protein in the diet, metabolic syndrome responsible for obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure can be controlled. The researchers’ study has been published in the journal Nutrients.

Lead researcher Raphael Faraj Benitz of Harvard Medical School said that the study showed that reducing the protein to 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight produced the expected results in reducing obesity. However, calories were not reduced in this. That is, the amount of calories needed by the body was given but the protein was reduced. In the study, 21 participants with metabolic syndrome were included and they were given a control diet for 27 days. Throughout the study, these participants were kept in the hospital and their health activities were monitored throughout. The number of calories given to all the participants was accounted for.

weight loss in 27 days
Researchers created two groups of participants. The first group was given a Western diet consisting of 50 percent carbohydrates, 20 percent protein and 30 percent fat. Their calorie intake was reduced by 25 percent. The other group was given only 10 percent protein. Although they were given enough calories. Both groups were also given 4 grams of salt daily. The results of the study found that people in both groups lost weight. The reduction of excess body fat was observed and the symptoms of metabolic syndrome also decreased. This also reduced blood sugar, lipids and blood pressure. Maria Christina, an author of the study, said that after 27 days, people in both groups had reduced fat around the waist, but there was no difference in body mass. This means that metabolic syndrome can be easily reduced by controlling the diet.
