Dubai. Suryakumar Yadav’s swashbuckling innings against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup 2022 won the heart of Virat Kohli. Kohli was so happy that he took off his cap and saluted Suryakumar. Surya termed this moment as heart touching. Suryakumar played an unbeaten 66 against Hong Kong in just 26 balls, which included six sixes and as many fours. India won the match by 40 runs and made it to the Super Four. His best innings was dominated by Kohli’s unbeaten 59 off 44 balls. At the end of the Indian innings, Kohli bowed before Suryakumar and said, “What is this?”
Suryakumar said after the match, “Virat Kohli’s expressions were heart touching. I’ve never had an experience like this before. I wondered why he was not going ahead of me and when I realized it, I asked him to accompany me. He is much more experienced than me.” Suryakumar and Kohli shared an unbroken 98-run partnership for the third wicket as India batted first and put up a strong total of 192 runs for two wickets.
Suryakumar said, “I thoroughly enjoyed batting with him. We were talking on what kind of attitude to adopt in the next balls. He is such an experienced player and I haven’t played too many T20 Internationals. That is why it is very important to have such an experienced player in the match at such a time.
On being invited to bat first, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul could not convert their good starts into big innings. After this, Kohli and Suryakumar played the responsibility very well.
Suryakumar said, “The situation was such that it was necessary for me to bat aggressively as soon as I got to the crease. The wicket was playing a bit slow initially and I spoke to Virat Kohli. He advised me to play my natural game. My strategy was also clear and that’s why I enjoyed batting.
Suryakumar completed his fifty in just 22 balls. India has become the second team to make it to Super 4 with its second consecutive win.
