New Delhi. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has predicted that Jasprit Bumrah will do well in Australian conditions against Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi in the T20 World Cup 2022. Bumrah and Afridi, the two leading fast bowlers of the current era, missed out on a face-off in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022, but will be on the field during the ICC’s mega event next month.
Bumrah has been Team India’s leading bowler across all formats in the last three to four years and has so far taken 69 wickets in 58 T20Is at an economy rate of 6.46. His absence has proved to be a key issue for the Indian bowling department in the Asia Cup as well as the first T20I against Australia in Mohali. Afridi, on the other hand, has emerged as a sensational bowler since his debut and has troubled the best of batsmen.
Babar Azam became Bahubali, together he made 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… Not many records, Kohli-Inzamam left behind
Out of these two fast bowlers, when Ponting was asked to pick a better potential bowler from the point of view of performing in Australian conditions, he said that it is difficult to choose between the two fast bowlers. Along with this, the former Australian captain appreciated the performance of both the bowlers in different formats of cricket in the last two years. He further added that because Jasprit Bumrah has played more major tournaments than Afridi to perform better in Australian conditions, he would go with the Indian pacer.
During a conversation with Sanjana Ganesan on the ICC Review, Ponting said, ‘Look, how can you separate those two bowlers? He is one of the best performing bowlers in the world over the years in all formats of the game. He said, “I would probably like Bumrah based on experience alone. He has played a lot of cricket in Australia so far, has played more in Australia than Afridi and he has also played more big tournaments than Afridi.
