A player cannot be compelled to play BBL by contract
Australia’s star cricketer David Warner did not play in this league in 2014.
UAE’s International League has offered 15 top Australian players
New Delhi. Australia’s famous T20 league Bish Bash (BBL) seems to be in danger. In fact, a T20 league in Asia has presented a huge amount of crores to many players of Australia playing BBL. These players have been offered 700,000 Australian dollars (about 38.5 million) to withdraw from the BBL and play in their league, which has upset Cricket Australia. If these players leave their country’s league in the greed of money, then it will cause a lot of damage to Cricket Australia and at the same time their credibility will also be questioned.
The International League (IL T20) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has offered 15 top players from Australia to withdraw from the Big Bash League (BBL) and play in their league. Both these leagues are to be organized at the same time. The Big Bash League will be played from December 13 to February 4, while the first tournament of IL T20 is to be played from January 6 to February 12. In such a situation, it is impossible for Australian players to join both the leagues. For this reason, the UAE League has offered crores of rupees to Australian players.
According to the ‘Sydney Morning Herald’, at least 15 Australian players have been offered 7 million Australian dollars to withdraw from the Big Bash League and play in the UAE league. According to the current central contract of Australia’s top players, no player can be forced to play in the BBL. David Warner did not play in this league in 2014.
BBL’s highest ever paid Darcy Short was 370,000 Australian dollars (about 20 lakh 37 thousand US dollars). This amount is much less compared to what has been paid to Australian players in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But IPL league owners have also invested in T20 leagues in the UAE and Cricket South Africa, and Cricket Australia will need to revise its payment structure for the BBL.
According to the newspaper, “The players in the UAE League have been offered hefty sums which are much higher than the BBL, putting Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association under pressure.”
